Ibrahim Shareef, CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates Velana International Airport, has been elected as a board member of the largest tourism organization MATI.

The 34th annual meeting of MATI was held in Kurumba Maldives yesterday and two members were elected as the vacant members of the governing body of the organizatio - Shareef and General Manager of Ritz Carlton Maldives and Fari Islands, Renato di Oliveira, who represents Marriott International.

Other members of the governing body of MATI include:

  • Chairman: Mohamed Umar Manik (MU Manik), Chairman, Universal Group
  • Vice Chairman: Hussain Afif, owner of Champa Group and Salah Shihab, shareholder of Voyages Maldives
  • Secretary General – Shareholder of Crown Company Ahmed Nazir

According to MATI, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and economy minister Mohamed Saeed attended the annual meeting attended by 100 of the organization's over 120 members.
