Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has said that the fishermen will be paid MVR 100 million before Monday, 26th of this month.

During a session of the People's Majlis, the Minister addressed questions raised by members regarding delayed payments owed to fishermen.

The Minister stated that the current outstanding amount owed to fishermen is MVR 280 million. He assured them that MVR 100 million would be disbursed before the 26th of this month, with the remaining balance to be paid by March.

He further elaborated that since this administration took office, a total of 18,987 tonnes of fish have been exported, generating revenue of MVR 395 million. However, due to credit-based purchases of fuel and supplies since November 17th, the total amount disbursed to fishermen amounts to MVR 435 million.

The Minister also acknowledged the ongoing issue of fishermen in Kooddoo being unable to fish due to unpaid dues for fish delivered. He assured that the government is undertaking various efforts to resolve this issue.
