President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that field work on the largest bridge project connecting Hulhumeedhoo and Hithadhoo in Addu City will commence this year and be completed within this term.

The Administration signed an MoU for the preliminary works of the bridge with Egypt's The Arab Contractors on Monday.

During his meeting with the residents in Hulhumeedho, President Dr. Muizzu stated that this would be the biggest bridge project in the Maldives.

"This would be the longest bridge constructed in the Maldives, making it the biggest such project commenced in the Maldives," he said.

He said the construction of the bridge would begin this year and would be completed during the current term.

"The MoU signed today will develop into a work contract. We will start the construction of the bridge within this year as a contract for construction. My estimate is to finish the work in four years maximum," he said.

President Dr. Muizzu said proper transportation systems are key to major development.

Egypt's The Arab Contractors had expressed interest in the construction of the bridge connecting Hulhumedhoo and Hithadhoo in Addu City in January.
