The first task of the new parliament after MDP secures the majority of it will be to put the government on the right track, former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has said.

Speaking at a campaign rally for incumbent Hinnavaru MP Jeehan Mahmood, the Former President said that he was confident that MDP would secure a majority of the parliament.

Solih said that he will ask the government not to deceive the people, and will work through the Parliament to put it on the right track.

Solih said he has worked in Parliament for the past 25 years and had been the President for five years. However, the country cannot remain blind to the direction it is taking now, he said.

"As a person who has been President, I cannot stand idly by today. The country is not going in the right direction. If we don't work together, we can see very clearly the pit this country will fall into. We haven’t seen anything else done yet about it,” he said.

Solih further stressed that the people were greatly confused by the lies, deception, and hatred of the current government. As a result, the MDP lost the election, he said.

However, today, people across the country are thinking deeply about the decision and people are beginning to feel that they have done something wrong, he said.
