The no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Aslam and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Saleem has been dismissed after 13 MPs withdrew their signatures.
The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group (PG) Leader, Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj, said in a post on X today that he does not want to proceed with the no-confidence motion against the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. He did not give any further details.
One Online has received a letter from the MPs who withdrew their signatures on the no-confidence motion against the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Among the MPs who withdrew their signatures were Moosa Siraj and PPM Parliamentary Group Leader Ahmed Saleem.

According to the rules of the Parliament, a motion of no confidence in the Speaker and Deputy Speaker can be signed by not less than one-fourth of the total number of members of the Parliament. That’s 20 members.
The ruling PPM-PNC's PG has moved a no-confidence motion against the Speaker and Deputy Speaker with the signatures of 23 MPs. With 13 of them withdrawing their signatures, the legal number needed to proceed with the case is now missing.
