Social media activist Ahmed Anwar (Simwar) has been appointed to the Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka.
One learnt that Anwar has been given the post of Second Secretary in the Sri Lanka Embassy.
Anwar was one of the most active critics on social media to protest against the then regime when he was in self-imposed exile during former President Yameen's regime.
He returned to the Maldives at the end of Yameen's rule and was involved in promoting former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government and MDP.
He served as the Senior Executive Director of the Ministry of Economic Affairs during president Solih's administration.
Anwar has also led the Democrats, which were formed by lawmakers who left the party during the crisis within MDP, and in the subsequent presidential elections, he made various posts criticising President Solih and MDP.
