Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Aslam, has said he will work on ensuring housing for Parliament's administrative staff.
Speaking at the Parliament staff night, Aslam said that one of the major concerns of the administrative staff is not having been categorised during any social housing schemes.
"I believe that the Parliament has to come up with a solution for this instead of the government. We will hopefully carry this out based on your recommendations as well as the recommendation of the Secretary General," Aslam said.
At the staff night held after 12 years, 10 staff were given silver medals, 57 received bronze medals and 34 received gold medals.
Aslam noted that the Parliament's administrative staff were well-trained and competent and have received various international training as well.
He added that the Parliament staff have received a 20 percent increase in their salaries after a long time. He however noted that he does not believe the renumeration compensated the work carried out by the administrative staff at the Parliament.
Former Foreing Minister Abdulla Shahid attended the staff night as the Chief Guest.
