Minister for Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has said that the government will provide free rice, sugar and flour to households in the Greater Male' area.
In a post on X last evening, Minister Adam Shareef said that some people were worried that they had to register to get rice, flour and sugar that the government had decided to give free of cost during the fasting month.
"We will make it available to households in Greater Male', without registration," he said.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who arrived in the Maldives after his official visit to China, told reporters at Velana International Airport (VIA) on January 13 that the government has decided to provide free rice and flour to every household during the upcoming Ramadan.
He said the government would provide 10 kg rice and flour to each household.
Male' City Council has announced that 10 kg of rice and 10 kilograms of flour will be distributed to every household living in the Maldives during this year's Ramadan.
The civic body's media coordinator Aminath Shathufa told One today that the announcement was revoked as a special portal was being created to register people in need of free rice and flour.
"Once the portal is made, it will be open for re-registration on Monday," she said.
