Agriculture Ministry has handed over land to Male' City Council for the pet care facility set up to look after street cats in male' city.

Male' City Council confirmed the news on X on Friday.

The Agriculture Ministry handed over 5,000 square feet of land to the City Council for the cat facility. The land was allotted from the vacant land in the Hiyaa flat area of Phase II.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his time as the mayor of Male' City pledged to build a cat shelter in the Male' area. The initial plan was to set up a cat shelter in Vilimale'.

Later, the Male' City Council approved a budget of MVR 1.9 million for the construction of a cat shelter in Masveringe park, but the work was not carried out.

Later, the cabinet decided to build the cat shelter in Farukolhufushi. Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has stated that the land for the pet care facility has been allocated.
