Kashidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Jabir has been temporarily banned from traveling on Maldivian Airlines flights for threatening a pilot and crew members.
A video of Jabir abusing a pilot and crew members on a platform of a Maldivian seaplane has been circulating on social media. It is unclear when the video was taken.
The video shows Jabir angry, threatening the pilot, and using obscene language. He can also be heard raising his hand towards the pilot, saying that he should be arrested, and mocking the pilot for having a beard, telling him to be an imam instead of a pilot.
A Maldivian official told One Online today that Jabir's actions had endangered the safety of the crew and the company would not accept it under any circumstances. The top priority of Maldivian Airlines is to ensure the safety and security of the crew and passengers.
The official said the matter has now been reported to the police as part of the procedure to be followed in such cases. The company and the Civil Aviation Authority have launched a separate investigation into the matter.
"The travel ban is temporary as the investigation is ongoing. That is the way the police are doing. Action will be taken after the investigation," the official said.
