President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that most of the proposals made by the elected government were removed from the budget prepared by the then government during the transition period after the presidential elections.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Veymandoo as part of his visit to Th. Atoll, The President said that he had promised to modernize the main road in all the islands of the Maldives. He added that building regional economic centres, one of his policies, will also be successful by increasing land.
"This year's budget was not proposed and finalised by us. A lot of the projects we suggested were removed from the budget by the outgoing government. But we are hopeful we can start new projects this year. We will have the chance to pass a budget as we see fit next year," President Dr. Muizzu said.
He said that though there is no budget, he will see if the land reclamation work in Veymandoo can begin as per the law this year as well. If the land reclamation work does not begin this year, the government will commence the project next year, he added.
President Dr. Muizzu said that the public should not doubt that he will fulfill his presidential pledges.
He said that more development opportunities should be given to the developing islands. Increasing the land required for such islands is not an initiative but an investment for the future, President Dr. Muizzu added.
