President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the current issues are a result of efforts being made to evacuate Indian troops in the Maldives.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Veymandoo as part of his ongoing visit to Th. Atoll, President Dr. Muizzu said that the economic development plans would be fulfilled by ensuring that the independence of the Maldives could be maintained by Maldivians. He said the process of evacuating the Indian troops began the day he took oath of office.
"All the issues we are facing now is because of efforts to evacuate foreign military troops from the nation," he said.
The President said that the evacuation of Indian troops is being done diplomatically.
"The process to evacuate the troops is being carried out diplomatically as per policies. We will maintain professionalism in how we address this," he said.
He alleged that some people were trying to mislead the public as the government's efforts to repatriate Indian soldiers from the Maldives were successful.
The President said that the first group of the Indian soldiers in the Maldives will Leave Maldives on March 10 and the remaining Indian soldiers will leave the Maldives after two months.
Maldivians are peace-loving and want the Maldives to be a sovereign nation, the President said.
