President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the Th. Guraidhoo airport project will be launched this year.

Speaking to the people of the island on his first visit to the island since his victory in last year's presidential election, the President said that the opposition MDP's majority parliament had removed important government projects from the budget.

"The project (Fushidhigarfalu project) also showed that even if the budget is deducted, there will be legal options. We have started the project," President Dr. Muizzu said.

He said that the construction of an airport in the island is the main aspiration of the people of the island and the construction of the airport in the island will begin this year.

"We will find a way to do it within the legal framework and we will start work this year," he said.

He said there were other requirements of the island as well, but with a hierarchy, all the requirements of the island would be fulfilled.

During his election campaign, the president had promised to develop an airport in the island and build a hospital by fencing roads.
