Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that the second discussion meeting of the High-Level Core Group tasked with overseeing the withdrawal of Indian troops in the Maldives will be held today in New Delhi, India.

The decision to form a high-level core group to discuss the withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives was taken on the sidelines of the COP28 summit in Dubai in December last year by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The first meeting of the Core Group was held in the Maldives on 14th of last month while the second meeting was scheduled to be held in India.

The second meeting of the Core Group will be held in New Delhi today, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement today. However, further details on who will be participating in the discussion was not revealed.

The government had earlier said that the Maldives had requested the withdrawal of troops before March 15 at the first meeting of the group.

The withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives is a presidential pledge of President Muizzu. He has already officially asked the Indian government to withdraw its troops. He has also discussed the matter with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
