Maldives National University (MNU) has been entrusted with the task of conducting a nationwide aircargo study for Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL).

The agreement was signed on behalf of RACL by Its Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen and on behalf of MNU by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehnaz Adam.

The study will be conducted in three regions covering the entire country and the study is scheduled to be completed in six months.

Findings from the study includes:

  • Assessing people's willingness to send goods quickly through aircargo.
  • Assessing the willingness of businesses to send goods via aircargo.
  • Identify the difficulties associated with sending goods via aircargo and the steps that need to be taken to address these issues.
  • Identify barriers to cargo movement between airports and other islands by sea.
  • Assessing the availability of resources to provide aircargo services at regional airports.

"We are also in talks with a foreign company to explore the possibilities of transporting cargo through drones," RACL said in a statement.
