President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been assured of the support of the Pakistani Government to address the pressing development needs of the Maldives by Anwaar-ul Haq Kakar, the current Prime Minister of Pakistan, during a telephone conversation earlier today according to the President’s Office.
During the phone call, the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation on issues of mutual priority in the international arena, the President's Office said.
Speaking with President Dr. Muizzu, Prime Minister Anwaar additionally conveyed his support and assistance to the Maldives’ efforts to mitigate the challenges posed by climate change.
President Muizzu and Anwar met on the sidelines of the COP28 summit in Dubai in December. After the meeting, it was decided that Pakistan would help plant 5 million trees in the Maldives.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Pakistan on July 26, 1966.
