India has announced a grant of 600 crore rupees (USD 72 million) to the Maldives in the current fiscal year.
India's financial year is counted from April every year till March next year, with Finance Minister Sitharaman presenting the Union Budget 2025-2024 in parliament on Monday.
According to the budget, Bhutan is the country with the highest number of grants in the current financial year.
India's first budget for the previous fiscal year 2019-20 was USD 48.1 million, but with the amendments, USD 92.9 million has been allocated to the Maldives.
Therefore, the amount of assistance provided to the Maldives for the current financial year is USD 20 million less than what was allocated to the Maldives in the current fiscal year.
India's budget also provides assistance to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Mongolia, Seychelles, Myanmar and Mauritius.
