The Football Association of Maldives (FAM)’s Extra Ordinary Congress, is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on February 8th.

On January 25th, the FAM canceled all election decisions and called for an Extra-Ordinary Congress in accordance with FIFA and the AFC's directive to halt its election activities.

FIFA and the AFC wrote to the FAM on 22nd January, urging them to restart the election process, which was originally scheduled to take place on January 31st. They asked FAM to ensure that the basic rules are followed throughout the process and a congress be held to re-elect the electoral committee and the electoral appeal committee.

Such an order was issued due to the absence of an appeal committee of FAM to investigate the appeal filed by former president and Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thorig (Tom), one of the candidates contesting the election backed up by Valencia.

Apart from Thorig, the only other candidate was Mufawiz Hashim, who was part of former president Bassam Adeel Jaleel's EXCO.

FAM has sent a special circular to 17 member clubs, stating that an extra-ordinary congress has been scheduled for the 8th of February and applications to be a part of the Electoral Committee, Electoral Appeals Committee, Disciplinary Committee, and Appeal Committee are accepted until the 3rd of this month.

Those attending the meeting online are requested to submit their names and complete the form before 2:00 pm on the 5th of February. The FAM has not disclosed the reason for holding the extra-ordinary congress online.

FAM's election process has gone wrong, with its former president, Bassam Adheel Jaleel, charged with fraud and money laundering.
