President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Former Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhsin as the Criminal Justice Advisor to the President.
The President's Office confirmed the appointment to One Online earlier today.
Muhthaz has been appointed as the President's Advisor after he contested the PPM/PNC primary held on Saturday.
Muhthaz served as the Prosecutor General during the administration of former President Abdullah Yameen. However, he was removed from the post of Prosecutor General on 11 November 2015 after a no-confidence motion was moved against him.
He was later charged with terrorism and sentenced to 17 years in prison. It was for making an invalid court order to arrest President Yameen. However, the Supreme Court later quashed the verdict.
