Maldives Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has banned the import and sale of 'Toblerone' chocolates in the Maldives as a precautionary measure.
In a statement, the FDA said it has been informed through Europe's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) and the World Health Organization's International Food Safety Authority (INFSAN) that milk chocolate under the brand Of Toblerone is contaminated with plastic.
"The agencies informed the FDA that the chocolate had entered the country and that it was due to a problem with the machine that manufactured the chocolate," the statement said.
According to the FDA, consuming the chocolate could cause some plastic to get stuck in the throat or damage the teeth, and therefore, as a precautionary measure, it has ordered a ban on the import and sale of the chocolate.
