Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim has said that former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had instilled hatred in the minds of maldivians against India.

Replying to a question from One at a press conference held by the Jumhooree Party on Sunday, he said that some of President Dr. Muizzu's comments to the media after his visit to China was at India and that was said from an emotional perspective.

"President Yameen established this tension by supporting India Out. Why couldn't President Dr. Muizzu tell the truth? He doesn't have to carry on a diplomatic issue created by someone else. We should not be going against our neighbours," Qasim said.

He said that Yameen was the first to create this discontent between the people of India and the People of Maldives and that Yameen had made mistakes in this regard.

"Yameen made the statement in order to create tension between the people of the country and the people of India with the India Out campaign. At that time, the then President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih allowed this to happen. That's not something that should have happened either. The state has to take responsibility, especially when it comes to dealing with its neighbours and making those kinds of statements. It was only after the movement was established that our then President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took action and banned it through a resolution," he said.

He further said that President Dr. Muizzu should not do so despite Yameen's call to revoke the resolution issued by President Solih. He urged the Government to formally apologise to the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi his remarks on India.
