Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Horafushi MP Ahmed Saleem has said that due to what happened in the Parliament today, a majority of MDP lawmakers do not want to approve most of the government ministers.

Addressing a press conference at the Parliament, Saleem said that though the parliamentary committee, which looks into the performance of the government's duties, had approved the approval of all the ministers, it was passed only after considering whether the conditions laid down in the Constitution were met. The committee's decision was not the final decision but the final decision of the Parliament would be taken by the members' vote.

"Therefore, whether the cabinet is approved or not will be known only in Monday vote," Saleem said.

He said a lot of members have made it very clear to him that they no longer want to approve the cabinet ministers.

Salim said that the Parliament witnessed government members obstructing the proceedings of the Parliament on Sunday.

At a meeting held one Sunday, MDP's parliamentary group decided not to approve Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Attorney General Ahmed Usham and Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haider.
