Male' City Council Mayor Adam Azim has said that he believes that major projects carried out by the Male' City Council have been transferred to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure just for supervision.

The Male' City Council had approved the transfer of projects above MVR 100 million to the Ministry of Infrastructure, including the construction of local markets and parking buildings before Azim took oath as Mayor.

Speaking on RaajjeTV's "Falasuruhee" programme last night, Azim said that the process of transferring the projects to the Ministry of Infrastructure did not work out properly. The City Council approved the decision to hand over the projects to the Ministry of Infrastructure for supervision and that the projects were still the projects of the City Council.

"I don't think the right decision was taken that day. However, I respect it. Then there's what happens next when it comes to implementing the projects. Either way, the City Council is still the owner of the projects. Right now, I am responsible for everything in the City Council as the mayor," said Azim.

He said that the projects should be completed quickly and the benefits should be made available to the people and if the infrastructure ministry is not able to start them within six months, they should be handed back to the civic body.

"I think it's being assigned to supervise. And I don't see the contract. It has been said to be handed over now. I must have said I wanted to see. It is my responsibility to complete the project on time," Azim said.

He further said that it is not about who is handling project when it comes to matters concerning the people, it should happen and the government will get all his support in matters concerning the people.
