Parliamentarians from the ruling party PNC are protesting at the parliament after MDP and The Democrats decided to not approve certain ministers in the cabinet of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The vote on the approval of the ministers was scheduled for 1:30 pm today.
Parliamentary Media and Communication Director Hassan Ziyau told One Online that the session was delayed due to the protests of the ruling coalition members.
He however denied allegations that the parliament was locked to prevent some members from entering.
Today, MDP and The Democrats have decided not to approve some ministers. As such, MDP decided against Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed, Attorney General Ahmed Usham and Housing Minister Dr Ali Haider as well as Islamic Minister Dr. Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
The Democrats also decided not to approve Attorney General Usham, Islamic Minister Shaheem and Housing Minister Haider. The Democrats have also decided not to approve Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer.
The Democrats and MDP have decided not to approve some ministers, while pro-government groups are protesting outside parliament.
