Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that the Ministry's debt of MVR 27 million has been repaid since the new Administration took over.

Speaking at the Ministers' Aha Forum held at Sultan Park on Thursday evening, Islamic Minister Shaheem said it was important to repay the debt despite the economic crisis in the Maldives and that the Ministry's projects had been stalled due to non-payment of dues to the companies.

"At the time of the establishment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government, the Islamic Ministry alone had a debt of MVR 27 million. In the first two weeks of the president, funds have been allocated to the ministry to clear these debts. Now, this MVR 27 million debt has been cleared," the Minister said.

Minister Dr. Shaheem said that now the companies have been paid and therefore, under the direction of the President, there will be no delay and stalled projects will also be resumed and they will be able to serve the people without any delay.

"Islamic Centres across the country are stuck, nothing can be done, places are getting deserted. The President has now made it possible to carry out academic activities in these places. The IUM has already announced courses and has made it possible for the students to study in Male' Nice," Minister Dr. Shaheem said.

The Minister further said that the President has promised to closely monitor the affairs of around 700 mosques in the Maldives and now a National Council on Mosques has been formed for this purpose.
