The city council has signed an agreement with the Animal Welfare Ministry to build a shelter for cats in Hulhumale.

Mayor Adam Azim signed the agreement on behalf of the city council. State Minister Hussain Ismail signed on behalf of the Animal Welfare Ministry.

HDC has allocated 5,000 sqft of land in Hulhumale to build special shelters for cats. The Welfare Ministry has said that the cat shelter will solve the problem of stray cats in the city.

Mayor Azim has said that the cat problem in the city should be solved now and it is a national issue.

The cat shelter will be built and maintained by the city council.
