More than 128,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this month, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

According to the latest figures released by the Tourism Ministry, 128,548 tourists arrived in the Maldives as of Sunday.

That was 11.6 percent more than the same period last year. During the first 21 days of January last year, 115,187 tourists arrived in the Maldives.

Statistics show that an average of 6,121 tourists arrive in the country every day this month and they spend an average of eight days.

The largest number of tourists so far this month came from Russia. Russia, the second largest tourist destination last year, has 14,495 tourist arrivals so far this month.

Italy is in second place. The country has 13,965 tourist arrivals so far this month, leaving the UK in third place. The country has 10,689 tourist arrivals so far this month.

There have been major changes in the top markets, most notably India, which was the number one market last year, dropping to fifth place. The country has 9,744 tourist arrivals so far this month.

Instead, China has overtaken the Indian market to move up to fourth place. China has 10,113 tourist arrivals so far this month.
