President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that Male' and Rascal' will be connected with a tunnel that showcases the underwater beauty of the Maldives.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Male' Mayor-elect Adam Azim, the President said that the government has initiated a technical, innovative work to connect Rasmale' city with Male'.
"This will be a first in the world. The underwater tunnel will connect Male' to Rasmale' and it will show beautiful underwater visuals while people travel in the train," he said.
He said people are living in other parts of the world, connected by such a tunnel, and everything the government is doing will be done in a conflicting manner.
The President said that the project would boost tourism in the Maldives and increase the number of tourists coming to the Maldives manifold.
Reclamation of Rasmale' or Fushidhiggaru falhu and allotment of land and flats from there is one of President Dr. Muizzu's biggest presidential pledges. The largest land reclamation project was initiated on December 18.
A large area of 1,280 hectares will be acquired from Fushidhiggaru falhu, which is three times the size of Hulhumale' Phase I phase II, from which 11,970 houses, 26,500 housing units with three rooms and four rooms will be constructed.
