The case of a child who died in critical condition in Gaafu Alif Atoll Villingilli due to a delay in being transferred to Male' City for treatment has been submitted to the Parliament.
Thirteen-year-old Mohammed Jaah Khalid of Fenfiaz, Villingili died after delays in his medical evacuation yesterday.
Villingilli MP Saud Hussain submitted to the parliament for a review of how government authorities had acted in the case.
In his letter to the Speaker of the Parliament, Saud said that the government authorities are not paying enough attention to the recent emergencies in various parts of the country and the transportation of patients who need to be brought to Male for further treatment.
Saud further highlighted that the boy's condition worsened while being treated at Gaafu Alif Regional Hospital and that doctors had requested for immediate medical evacuation. While the special aircraft and helicopter were ready for the evacuation, they were not used and the case was put on hold till availability on an Island Aviation aircraft.
Therefore, in the letter, Saud asked the government to investigate the deliberate delay in bringing the child to Male' for urgent treatment without using the emergency facilities available in the Maldives.
The father of the child who died yesterday, Mohammed Khalid, told One Online that Aasandha was arranged but the child was not brought to Male' due to lack of a scheduled flight.
It is learned that the child was brought to Male' 16 hours after the request. An IGMH media official told One that the child died while undergoing treatment in the ICU.
