The national airline, Maldivian, has decided to start fair flights to Madivaru Airport in Lh. Atoll.
The cost of one way of the fair journey is MVR 949. Earlier, the one-way trip to Madivaru was MVR 1,377.
These flights will be operated from Saturday and bookings will already be possible and fair flights will be available online only after they book tickets through the mobile app or the airline's website, the airline said in a statement.
The national carrier had decided to increase its scheduled flights to three domestic airports on July 11 last year and the change was effected on July 20.
Maldivian has decided to increase its scheduled flights to Maafaru Airport, R. Ifur Airport and L. Madivar Airport.
With this change, Maldivian will operate an additional flight from Madivaru to Maafaru and From Maafaru to Male' every day. This is the first time that Maldivian is operating scheduled flights from one domestic airport to another.
As per the current flight schedule, only two flights a day are operated to Ifuru, and one flight to Maafaru and Madivaru daily.
If there is a need to increase the number of flights to airports as well, Maldivian said the airline will continue to do so. The airport developed in Madivaru was opened on February 18, 2022.
Apart from an air traffic control tower, the airport has a terminal building, an accommodation block, a 1,200-metre runway and a flight parking area.
