The city council has approved the transfer of MVR 120 million worth of major projects to the Infrastructure Ministry.

The council passed the resolution at its meeting held today.

The current President’s Office Corporate Development Minister, Mohamed Shahid, who was previously in charge of the projects as a city council employee, attended today’s council meeting. He proposed to hand over the projects to the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Presenting the paper at today's meeting, Shahid said he proposed to hand over the projects to the relevant ministry without any changes to the proposals agreed upon by the council.

If the projects are transferred to the government but work does not start within six months, they can be transferred back to the city council, he said.

Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh, who is the acting mayor of the city, asked for the motion to be passed.

The motion was passed by nine votes out of 10 members present at today's meeting. No member voted against the motion.

No details of the projects awarded by the government were given at the meeting. The city council has taken this step as the newly elected mayor of the city, Adam Azim, is about to be sworn in. He is scheduled to be sworn in on Monday night.
