A group of employees of Dhidhoo Fenaka Corporation have started protesting against the termination of their contracts without renewing their contracts.
One of the employees who was terminated without renewing his contract told One today that he came to know about the termination only when he went to the office this morning.
According to him, only 53 employees were laid off after the contract expired.
Those who have been sacked are protesting from today.
In a post on X today, Fenakai Managing Director Muaz Mohamed Rasheed said that the contract of the employees was not renewed due to the stalled construction of the Dhidhdhoo power plant.
Fenaka had earlier said it laid off 904 of its employees after their contracts expired. This resulted in a saving of MVR 5.3 million, the company said.
