The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced an ex-gratia of MVR 711,541 to houses damaged in floods in Male' City.
NDMA said in a statement that the total number of places affected by the floods was 227, out of which 193 have been attended, out of which 1,018 sand bags have been placed at 152 places, including houses, schools and shops.
The NDMA said that rapid assessment of 43 households in need of immediate assistance has been carried out with the help of The Maldives Red Crescent. After providing temporary housing to 110 people in 18 houses for two days, they have been relocated to their homes. the NDMA said. A total of 19 locations were informed that they wanted to conduct the assessment, and six were not assessed due to various reasons.
"For the houses where the assessment was conducted, MVR 7,11,541.70 will be provided as assistance as part of the policy for providing humanitarian assistance in case of disasters. MVR 100,075.20, which accounts for 20 per cent of the total loss for essential commodities, MVR 611,466.50 for structural damages," NDMA said.
Apart from the heavy rains, 30 of the houses that were helped during the December 31 rains in the city have been re-assessed after they were damaged, the NDMA said.
