President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has ordered the withdrawal of all Indian troops from the Maldives by March.

The President's Office Policy Director Abdullah Nazim told a news conference at the President's Office today that the proposal was made on behalf of the President at the meeting between India and Maldives today.

"The government and the President have proposed the complete withdrawal of Indian troops from the country before March 15. The government, the Presiden especially pushed to propose this date for the agenda of the meeting," Nazim said.

Nazim said Indian Ambassador to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar, Joint Secretary and several senior officials from India attended the meeting. Senior officials from the Foreign Ministry and the President's Office represented the Maldives.

Nazim added that Indian troops cannot stay in the Maldives and that is what the people of the Maldives want.

The withdrawal of Indian troops from the Maldives is a presidential promise.
