MDP candidate Adam Azim has won the by-election for the Male City Council Mayor by a huge margin.

Azim won the mayoral by-election, with the ruling PNC candidate Azima Shakoor coming in behind.

The Democrats' Saif Fatih, former CP Hussain Waheed and Furahani Shuaib Ali contested the by-election.

The votes counted so far confirm that Azim has won the election. According to the results of 40 ballot boxes counted so far, Azim has received 45 percent of the vote while the government candidate Azima has received 29 percent of the vote. 55 ballot boxes were placed in the election. Therefore, no matter what the results from other boxes, no candidate will be able to approach the number received by Azim.

This is the biggest victory of the MDP in an election since the defeat of the presidential election.
