The by-election for the South Maafannu, Central Henveiru and South Henveiru constituencies is also being held today. The seats became vacant after the previous members resigned from their posts following their appointment to various government positions.

11.07 percent of the voters cast their ballots in the four hours since polling started at 8:00 am today. That’s 6,201 people. They include 2,595 women, or 4.63 percent, and 3,606 men, or 6.44 percent. Therefore, 88.93 percent of the people have not yet voted. That’s 49,801 people.

The total number of eligible voters in the polls is 56,002, the Election Commission said. There were 27,381 women and 28,621 men.

Today's voting will continue until 5:00 pm.

Earlier, polling was scheduled to be held from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm but the Election Commission yesterday decided to extend the polling deadline to 5:00 pm to give as many people as possible the opportunity to vote.
