Ballots were opened at 0800hrs on Saturday morning and will close at 1700hrs. The votes will be counted 30 minutes after the ballot closes.

There are 56,002 eligible voters for today's bi-election, with 55 ballot boxes set up in Male' city.

Male' city Mayor's post became vacant after former Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was sworn in as President on 17 November 2023.

There are 5 contestants for Male' mayorship. MDP's candidate, former CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim, PPM/PNC's candidate, former Attorney General, Azima Shukoor, The Democrats candidate, Galolhu Dhekunu Council member Ahmed Saif Fathih, MDA's member Shuaib Ali and former Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed are contesting for mayorship in Male' city.

The bi-election is being held with 620 election monitors, 197 observers and 165 party representatives.
