A total of 144 houses have been flooded in Male' city due to continuous rainfall, with residents of 8 households relocated to temporary shelters.
In a post on X, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Friday that Male' city and four other islands have reported flooding due to heavy rains. The islands include Th. Guraidhoo, Th. Dhiyamigili, L. Maamendhoo and Dh. Kudahuvadhoo with Male' city reporting the majority of damages.
As such, while 144 households had sought assistance, NDMA said 132 households have been provided assistance and 91 households had been provided sand sacks to minimise flooding. Residents of 8 households have been relocated to temporary shelters, NDMA said.
With continuous rainfall since early morning on Friday, Male' city streets have been flooded. MET Office had also issued a yellow alert from Kaafu to Thaa Atoll, and a white alert from HDh to Dhaalu Atoll.
