Actor Mohamed Yunan, who was released on bail by Hulhumale' Magistrate Court, has been taken into custody again.

Yunan was arrested over allegations of sexual abuse of minors, but was released on bail by Hulhumale' Magistrate Court on 15 December 2023. His bail conditions included not going out in public unless for medicals, to have no access to any minors including his children, to not communicate with any of the minors involved in the case, and to not leave the country or speak to media.

Hulhumale' Magistrate Court's order was appealed by the state on 24 December 2023, stating that Yunan should be remanded until the case hearings are over to ensure he does not tamper with any evidence in the case. Additionally, the state argued that the release order does not specify how Yunan is no longer a threat to society.

High Court ruled on the appeal on Wednesday, stating that the lower Court's ruling is void and that the lower Court should make a ruling if the state decides to take Yunan back into custody until the case is over.

Prosecutor General (PG)'s Office said on Friday that Yunan was taken into custody on Thursday and that the court has ordered him to be kept in remand until the hearings are over.
