Maldives and China have signed an agreement to develop 30,000 housing units in Rasmale'.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, during his state visit to China, signed 20 agreements with the Government of China on Wednesday, including one on the construction of a social housing unit in Rasmale'.

Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidhar Ahmed said in an interview to PSM that the construction of 30,000 housing units in Rasmale' will be carried out simultaneously and the agreement will not be carried out in phases.

Minister Dr. Haidhar stated that the government would reveal more information later, so it was not clear whether the assistance needed to build 30,000 housing units in Rasmale was a loan or grant.

Furthermore, Minister Dr. Haidhar said the Maldives has signed agreements to establish basic amenities in Rasmale', which will include urban resources, infrastructure, water, sanitation services and road development in Rasmale'.

President Dr. Muizzu had also earlier stated that 65,000 housing units, including land and flats, would be developed under the Rasmale' development project.
