Local Government Authority (LGA) has stated that GDh. Thinadhoo Council's name was changed to 'Thinadhoo City Council' unconstitutionally.

The name change was made following GDh. Thinadhoo's designation as a City by the former government by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his campaign.

Since different administrative offices address the Council by different names, Thinadhoo Council had submitted the matter to LGA and the Parliament.

After reviewing the issue, LGA decided on Tuesday that the Council name should not be changed until new Council members are elected. As such, the Council name should remain as Thinadhoo Island Council, LGA said.

LGA stated that although Thinadhoo was given City status by President, the administrative authorities will remain under the Island Council until their term is over as stated in the regulations.

LGA further added that following Kulhudhuffushi islands' designation as a City, the Island Council remained unchanged until their term ended.
