Main opposition party MDP has expressed concern over the delay in handing over of land and flats under 'Binveriya' and 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme.

In a statement issued on Thursday, MDP said it is concerning that the government has not handed over flats and land plots to the recipients who were gazetted in the final lists and attended the draws. MDP said multiple people are complaining over the delays.

"It is concerning for the public that President Dr. Muizzu has talked about the land plots and flats in various ways during his election campaign and after taking office," MDP said.

The statement called for immediate resumption of the handover of flats and land plots to the public according to the recipients list for the 'Binveriya' and 'Gedhoruveriya' scheme.

Some recipients of the flats have previously held a strike at Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as well.

In a statement issued by Housing Ministry earlier, the Ministry said that as per Minister Dr. Ali Haidhar's comment, the Ministry will commence the handover of flats once ACC completes their investigation. Since then, the Administration has not said anything regarding the matter.
