To further strengthen ties between China and the Maldives in the field of tourism, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for increasing direct flights between the two countries.

The discussions were held with Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang.

The President's Office said the discussions took place during Li Qiang's courtesy call to the President today. The meeting discussed the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

They discussed increasing China's cooperation in the Ras Malé development project, airport expansion, and other development projects.

During the meeting, Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang made proposals, including providing scholarship opportunities, vocational training, sports training, fisheries, and maritime cooperation, the Pesident’s Office said. He proposed to facilitate assistance in areas such as ecological cooperation and meteorological technology.

President Muizzu also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday. President Muizzu was officially welcomed and given a 21-gun salute.

Maldives and China have signed agreements to strengthen cooperation in 20 areas, including an agreement on further strengthening bilateral ties, an agreement on Belt and Road Cooperation and Blue Partnership and an agreement on assistance for housing project in Rasmale.

There is also an agreement on the development of the media sector and an agreement on the promotion of the digital sector.
