Former Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof has said he is against overthrowing a government elected by the people.

In the wake of the ongoing issue between India and Maldives following the derogatory remarks made by three deputy ministers of the Youth Ministry towards Indian PM Modi, The Democrats’ PG leader Ali Azim took to X in a post asking if the public was ready to change the Government.

Addressing Azim’s remarks on X, Mahloof said that President Dr. Muizzu was elected with the support of Azim and The Democrats.

"I am against overthrowing a government elected by the people. Coups have not been a good experience for the country. Elections should not be treated like a game," Mahloof added.

While Mahloof said he was opposed to a vote of no-confidence against President Dr. Muizzu, some MDP activists and parliament members had previously said they would seek a vote of no-confidence against him.
