Indian Ambassador to the Maldives Munoo Mahavar visited the Maldivian Foreign Ministry today.

The Indian ambassador has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry amid a strong anti-holiday campaign in the name of promoting Lakshadweep in the Indian union territory and a controversy over three deputy ministers of the youth ministry who passed racist remarks to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Three deputy ministers involved in the case have now been suspended.

"One" has learned that Ambassador Munu Mahawar is currently in the Foreign Ministry. However, it was not clear which government officials would meet the Indian ambassador.

While an official word by the government is yet to be received, Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer is currently accompanying President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on an official visit to China.

The Maldivian Ambassador to India, Ibrahim Shaheeb, was produced before the External Affairs Ministry this morning in connection with the insult to Modi. However, the government has not provided details of the meeting.

Deputy ministers Maryam Shiuna, Malsha Shareef and Abdullah Mahzoom Majid have been suspended for insulting Modi. They have been suspended amid widespread criticism.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the issue yesterday that the opinion of the government officials is not the word of the government. They said they would not hesitate to take action against those responsible.

Some Indians are also campaigning on social media under the name of Maldives Out.
