Azima Shakoor, the PNC candidate fo Male City Mayoral election, has decided to file a case against the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) and the newspaper Dhauru for allegedly influencing the upcoming by-election.

In a statement, Azima said the civil court ruled in her absence at the request of the bank when she had started negotiations for loan restructuring and submitted a repayment schedule to the bank.

MIB proceeded with that after assuring her that it would notify the court in writing to stay the ongoing court case until the loan restructuring talks were finalised.

Azima said that a case was filed against her in the Civil Court with additional money owed to a certain person and the judgment of the case was scheduled in absentia, as reported by Dhauru News. However, the court later cleared with her that there was no such case.

Therefore, the two cases are believed to be conspired to influence the by-election she contested and harm her in the election, so she decided to take action and her team of lawyers has started the work, Azima said.
