President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that the rent on social housing units developed in Hulhumale' Phase 1 will be reduced starting next month.

Speaking at a campaign rally for PNC mayoral candidate Azima Shakoor in Hulhumale today afternoon, President Muizzu said the government has not yet relieved the monthly payment of flats in the first phase but the change will come from next month.

As such, he noted that a 20 percent reduction in rent will be in effect on all social housing units in Phase 1 starting February.

The President said most of the flats in Phase 1 are loans to be repaid under agreements between two countries, and that the government could manage these. The President also said that he would work to reduce the maintenance fees of the flats.

The President added that all penalties have been waived as promised and the residents will not have to pay any penalties now.
