President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to transfer municipal services in Hulhumalé to the Malé City Council (MCC) per the Cabinet's recommendation.
This decision followed discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works during Sunday's Cabinet meeting.
All legal requirements have been met, and transitioning efforts are now being carried out in phases. The President's decision includes facilitating these changes to be realised in no more than a month from December 31, 2023. The President also instructed the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, the Ministry of Finance, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the Malé City Council (MCC), and the President's Office to work together to ensure that all administrative works are completed.
The agreement for this was signed by Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq and Housing Development Corporation (HDC)'s Managing Director Fazul Rasheed at a ceremony held on Thursday at Finance Ministry.
Hulhumale' municipal services were provided by Urbanco previously.
