The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced an ex-gratia of MVR 457,246.20 to 70 houses damaged due to heavy rains in the city.

In a post on X today, the NDMA said that 164 houses in Male' city were flooded due to heavy rains this week, out of which only 140 houses received the first response.

Five houses had power problems, five houses had problems, seven houses had their walls damaged, 14 houses damaged, 19 houses' ceilings were damaged and roof of seven houses were damaged, the Authority said.

According to the NDMA, 42 people of eight houses have been provided temporary shelter. MVR 1,79,275 was spent on responding for the first time to the damaged houses and the money was spent on providing temporary shelter and purchase of equipment.

The authority further said that 20 refrigerators, 40 closets, 33 double beds, 12 double mattresses and 36 kitchen cupboard sets were damaged due to flooding.
