President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that individuals who were allotted land under the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme run by the previous administration will be given their land registrations starting this week.
In a post on X, President Dr. Muizzu said he would complete his pledge to the people regarding the housing scheme. He added that the Housing Ministry has been tasked with the process of handing over the registries starting this week.
"Since some of the plots allotted are yet to be reclaimed, the process of reclaiming them is in full swing. The administration is also working on reclaiming more land from Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu," he said.
Although the previous administration had begun handing over registries to the landowners, the process was incomplete when the new government took office. Amid questions over whether the remaining citizens would receive the registrations after the change of government, President Dr. Muizzu promised to ensure that everyone who was in the final gazette list of recipients would receive their registrations.
Housing Minister Ali Haidhar had earlier said that there could be a change in the location of the land acquisition. There were rumors that the lands would be transferred to Rasmale' where the current government had started developing it, but President Dr. Muizzu has denied these allegations.
